O. Ceci et al., ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSIS OF HETEROTOPIC PREGNANCY WITH VIABLE FETUSES, European journal of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology, 52(3), 1993, pp. 229-231
Combined pregnancy is an under-estimated and increasing clinical condi
tion. Its recognition is usually made post-operatively. Ultrasound fin
dings are not specific. Diagnosis is possible only when the cardiac ac
tivity of the extrauterine and intrauterine fetus can be detected. In
the literature, 18 pre-operative sonographic demonstrations of such ca
ses are reported. A correct ecographic assessment can show a definite
diagnosis or indicate a diagnostic laparoscopy minimizing maternal mor
bidity and mortality and improving the prognosis of the intrauterine f
etus. In this report, ultrasound diagnostic aspects are discussed.
