Abstract
We report the observation and characterization of chaos in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) generated in a single-mode fiber in the pre sence of weak external feedback. We establish that the noise, which in itiates this process and dominates the emission near; the SBS threshol d, is dramatically suppressed from the onset of strong SBS emission, g iving rise to various highly deterministic dynamical features.
