Jd. Moody et al., BEAM SMOOTHING EFFECTS ON STIMULATED RAMAN AND BRILLOUIN BACKSCATTERING IN LASER-PRODUCED PLASMAS, Journal of fusion energy, 12(3), 1993, pp. 323-330
We describe plasma physics experiments using the Nova laser that inves
tigate the temporal and spectral characteristics of directly backscatt
ered laser light. The stimulated Raman and Brillouin instabilities are
studied for a variety of plasma conditions, drive laser intensities,
and beam smoothing conditions. The experimental facility, beam smoothi
ng techniques, and some experimental results are described.
