A concept and the main parameters of a driver for heavy-ion fusion (HI
F), based on ion beam neutralization have been considered. The advanta
ge of this driver scheme is a considerable increase of the current lim
it in the beam transport channel and therefore of the specific power d
eposition into the thermonuclear target. To profit from the neutraliza
tion idea more completely, a family of ions with different masses shou
ld be used. The optimal choice of the ions is also discussed.
