Vi. Fadeeva et al., SEPARATION OF SUPERSATURATED AL-FE SOLID-SOLUTION ON QUENCHING FROM LIQUID-STATE, Russian metallurgy. Metally, (2), 1993, pp. 73-76
The structure of supersaturated solid solutions of iran in aluminum ob
tained by melt-quenching at different rates is studied using: X-ray an
alysis, transmission electron microscopy and Mossbauer spectroscopy. I
n the quenching rate range 10(5)-10(6) K/s the solid solution is separ
ated into two fee phases. One of them is a supersaturated iron-substit
ution solid solution in aluminum, the other is a ''cluster'' type soli
d solution containing iron associates. The volume fraction of the dust
er solid solution decreases with the increase of quenching rate.
