Abstract
The structure formation and properties of 20GS and 10GS2 reinforcing s teels on tempering in the subcritical temperature range (700 degrees C , 1 h) after thermal strengthening from rolling or furnace heating tem peratures as studied. it is shown that the high-temperature thermomech anical strengthening (HTTMS) effect occurring when the steel is therma lly strengthened from rolling temperatures facilitates the alpha-->gam ma transformation on tempering and that alloying low carbon steel with up to 2% Si hinders this transformation in both thermal strengthening procedures. The nature and consequences of these effects are discusse d.
