The matching formalism, which has been introduced recently [W Jaskolsk
i, Phys Rev, B45, 4398 (1991)], is used to find image-induced resonanc
es of the (111) surface of Al, Cu and Ag. The method is applied within
a multiband pseudopotential model. The resonances are identified with
the maxima of the local surface density of states. The crystal-derive
d localized surface states are also found. The applicability of the me
thod and the usefulness of the pseudopotential model are discussed.
