J. Oltra et al., BLOOD TYPING OF BIOCHEMICAL POLYMORPHISMS AND APPLICATION TO PATERNITY TEST IN HORSES, Archivos de medicina veterinaria, 25(2), 1993, pp. 147-153
A total of 543 blood samples of horses from the Thoroughbred (237) and
Chilean F.S. (306) breeds, from different farms belonging to the V-th
and X(th) Regions were analyzed for 8 different biochemical loci. The
biochemical polymorphisms were detected by Horizontal Polyacrylamide
gel electrophoresis (Al, Gc, Es, Xk and Tf), Starch gels (Al, Es, 6-PG
D and Cat) and Isolectric focusing technique (Hb). Gene frequencies we
re calculated for all the polymorphisms detected and the total probabi
lity for Paternity exclution was estimated in 0.750 for Thoroughbreds
and 0.805 for Chilean F.S. breeds. Based on these results, the applica
tion of biochemical polimorphisms to paternity tests would allow a hig
h percentage of security in the exclusion of one or both progenitors.
