Abstract
X-ray diffraction analysis and layer-by-layer electron microscopy were used to study the formation of an active zone in prequenched 45 steel irradiated in surface melt-start mode with a low-energy high-current microsecond-pulse electron beam. This zone consists of several charact eristic regions. The conditions under which these regions are formed a re considered by analyzing thermal and deformation processes.
