Abstract
A mathematical model has been developed that can predict the elastic p roperties in tension of 3-layer laminated veneer lumber with clear, st raight-grained outer layers and an inner layer with sloping grain and a crack parallel to that grain. This analysis provides a theoretical m eans of determining the tension behavior of the material containing a crack at any angle to the direction of the stress and takes into accou nt the orientation and basic properties of the individual orthotropic layers.
