Jas. Nelson et Re. Falk, PHLORHIZIN AND PHLORETIN INHIBITION OF 2-DEOXY-D-GLUCOSE UPTAKE BY TUMOR-CELLS IN-VITRO AND IN-VIVO, Anticancer research, 13(6A), 1993, pp. 2293-2299
Utilizing the rat mammary adenocarcinoma and Fischer bladder cell carc
inoma cell lines, this study demonstrated the ability of two known glu
cose transport inhibitors, phloridzin (P1) and its aglucone, phloretin
(P2), to block glucose transport into whole viable tumor cells in vit
ro and tumor tissues in vivo. This work represents the first in a seri
es of experiments designed to explore the efficacy of P1 and P2 admini
stration in restraining tumor cell growth via the inhibition of glucos
e transmembrane transport.
