Abstract
We present the findings of a questionnaire to teachers in 45 secondary schools in one Local Education Authority on methods of teaching Shake speare. Traditional desk-bound, literary study is shown to be most pop ular, with performance-based strategies less popular and recreative me thods least popular. Implications are raised for further study and for the inservice and initial education of teachers.
