Laser-induced desorption of nitrogen from 40Kh13 chromium steel presat
urated with nitrogen was studied in the pressure range 0.133 Pato 0.53
3 kPa by recording the change of N-14(2):N-15(2) ratio in the gas phas
e over molten metal in an HF-induction heated alumina crucible. The de
gree of desorption, and supersaturation of the melt were related to ga
s pressure. Nitrogen mass-transfer parameters were calculated in relat
ion to different desorption mechanism limiting stages and partial nitr
ogen pressure.
