THE SM-CO-GE SYSTEM

Phase equilibria in ternary Sm-Co-Ge system at 870K (0-0.4 at fraction of Sm) and 670K (0.4-1.0 at. fraction of Sm) have been studied by X-r ay diffraction and metallography. The isothermal sections of the phase diagram have been constructed. The existence of two earlier known ger manides, SmCo2Ge2 and Sm2Co3Ge5, has been confirmed and 17 new ternary compounds have been found Crystal structures of 10 ternary germanides have been determined and microhardness of all found compounds has bee n measured.
