Triorganotin(IV) and triorganolead(IV) derivatives of the types Me3Sn(
SCZ) and Ph3Pb(SCZ) (where SCZ- is the anion of a semicarbazone ligand
) have been synthesized by substitution reactions of trimethyltin chlo
ride and triphenyl-lead chloride with semicarbazones derived from hete
rocyclic ketones. The resulting complexes have been characterized by e
lemental analyses, molecular weight determinations and conductivity me
asurements. The mode of bonding has been established on the basis of i
nfrared and H-1, C-13 and Sn-119 NMR spectroscopic studies. Some respr
esentative complexes have also been evaluated for their antimicrobial
effects on different species of pathogenic fungi and bacteria; the res
ults of these investigations have been reported in the present paper.
