Bm. Voronin et al., DISCHARGE CHARACTERISTICS OF A LITHIUM BATTERY WITH APROTIC ELECTROLYTE AND AN IRON PHOSPHORUS TRISULFIDE CATHODE, Russian journal of applied chemistry, 66(1), 1993, pp. 13-17
We have estimated the theoretical specific capacitances of cathodes ma
de of phosphorus trichalogenides of metals in the iron subgroup assumi
ng the current-forming reactions occur with participation of 1.5, 2, 6
, and 9 lithium atoms per formula unit MPX3 (M = Fe, Co, Ni; X = S, Se
). In this group of compounds FePS3 and NiPS3 have the highest theoret
ical specific capacitance. We have studied the discharge characteristi
cs of a lithium battery with a cathode made of iron phosphorus trisulf
ide and an aprotic electrolyte (1 M solution of LiBF4 in gamma-butyrol
actone), which confirmed the possibility of realizing the limiting cas
e in the Li/FePS3 system corresponding to participation of nine electr
ons in the oxidation-reduction process.
