Abstract
When PCR nas used to recover small-subunit (SSU) rRNA genes from a hot spring cyanobacterial mat community, chimeric SSU rRNA sequences whic h exhibited little or no secondary structural abnormality were recover ed. They were revealed as chimeras of SSU rRNA genes of uncultivated s pecies through separate phylogenetic analysis of short sequence domain s.
