Abstract
Wheat straw was ensiled with rumen liquor and molasses @ 0.6, 1.0 and 1.5% on dry-matter basis. After 30 days of ensiling, log counts of tot al bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, moulds and anaerobic bacter ia increased. Enterobacteria were negligible, CP and DM digestibilitie s increased while lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose decreased after treatment. Rumen-liquor inoculated silage had a significantly lower pH , higher lactic acid and and acetic acids and lower propionic and buty ric acids than control silage.
