Sf. Patil et al., ELECTROLYTE DIFFUSION OF COBALT AND MANGANESE SALTS IN WATER, Indian journal of chemistry. Sect. A: Inorganic, physical, theoretical & analytical, 33(2), 1994, pp. 159-161
Electrolyte diffusion coefficients of CoCl2, Co(NO3)(2), MnCl2 and MnS
O4 in water have been measured using Co-60(2+) and Mn-54(2+) as tracer
s with an open-ended, rapid improved capillary technique without stirr
ing. Nanis analytical solution for non-stirring mode is used for compu
tation of these electrolytes over a concentration range of 10(-5)-0.25
M at 25 +/- 0.1 degrees C. The measured diffusion coefficient values
are compared with the theoretical values estimated on the basis of Ons
ager-Fuoss theory. The experimental diffusion coefficients agree reaso
nably well at low concentrations. The observed deviations between theo
retical and experimental diffusion coefficients at high concentrations
are attributed to the occurrence of ion-ion interactions which are no
t considered while formulating the Onsager-Fuoss theory.
