Pi. Yushkov et al., CONTENTS OF CS-134-90 IN THE CROWN OF BIRCH TREES IN THE FIRST YEARS AFTER THE ACCIDENT AT THE CHERNOBYL-NUCLEAR-POWER-PLANT(137 AND SR), Russian journal of ecology, 24(1), 1993, pp. 70-74
In three pine-birch stands located 1.5, 6, and 18 km from the Chernoby
l nuclear power plant (CNPP), the authors studied accumulation of Ca-1
34+137 and Sr-90 by catkins and leaves of European birch. Changes in t
he concentration of these radionuclides in structural elements of the
catkins and in the leaves were shown in different years, and quantitat
ive characteristics of the radionuclides' passage from the soil into g
enerative organs and leaves are given.
