Abstract
Catalytic oxidation of methane was performed in molten Li2CO3-Na2CO3 i mmobilized on lithium aluminate. Pellets of the solid support with spe cific features were prepared and characterized. The evolution of the c atalytic effect with temperature and the oxoacidity of the medium were systematically analyzed. C2 yields and methane conversion increased s ubstantially with temperature. The catalytic activity at 750-degrees-C was correlated with the presence of peroxide species in basic media ( C2 yield about 10% and methane conversion 14%). The influence of the p roportion of molten carbonate in the Li2CO3-Na2CO3/LiAlO2 system was a lso examined.
