Kinetic regularities of the reaction of methanol with H2S in the prese
nce of Al2O3 and WO3/Al2O3 were studied using the flow-circulation met
hod. Based on kinetic data and results obtained by high-resolution NMR
, a mechanism is suggested. According to this mechanism, under the eff
ect of CH3OH and CH3SH, the catalyst surface is methoxylated, and then
CH3O groups react with H2S or another CH3SH molecule. Kinetic models
of the reaction that occurs on the inhomogeneous surface of a catalyst
are proposed.
