Abstract
As a part of the development of 35Ah individual-pressure-vessel-type N
i-H-2 cells for space use, the inorganic separators of matted zirconia
mixed with asbestos fibers were fabricated and evaluated. To improve
both the durability against the cell stack assembling and the retainab
ility of KOH electrolyte during a large number of charge/discharge cyc
lings of deep depth of discharge, the mat of 80 wt% zirconia fibers an
d 20 wt% asbestos fibers with a small amount (about 4 wt%) of butyl la
tex binder is obtained to be a most suitable separator for the Ni-H-2
cells.
