Abstract
The positions and intensities of all vibrational transitions in the (n u1, 2nu2) Fermi doublet region of (CO2)2 dimers are obtained by means of variational method. The collision-induced absorption in compressed carbon dioxide is shown to be mainly due to dimeric absorption. Assign ment of nu1 and 2nu2 vibrational bands in isolated CO2 molecule is per formed by consideration of the symmetries and intensities of dimeric v ibrations.
