The possibility of preparating an Fe2O3/ZSM-5 catalyst for Fischer-Tro
psch synthesis in a plasma of oxygen or argon glow discharge was studi
ed. X-ray and chemical analysis data confirmed the complete decomposit
ion of either pure Fe(NO3)(3) or the salt supported on ZSM-5 in a plas
ma of glow discharge with formation of Fe2O3 and NO2. XPS and magnetic
data, as well as the measurement of specific surface area, demonstrat
ed that up to 80 - 90% of the Fe2O3 was located inside the zeolitic ch
annels as ultra-dispersed amorphous particles, and 10 - 20% of the Fe2
O3 formed crystallites on the outer zeolite surface. The Fe2O3/ZSM-5 s
amples prepared by a plasma-chemical method exceeded the samples calci
ned in air by a factor of similar to 10 in their catalytic activity an
d by a factor of 1.6 in their selectivity of C-2(=)-C-4(=) alkene form
ation.
