Abstract
4-(4-o-Cresoxybut-2-ynyloxy)[1]benzopyran-2-one (3a) and 4-(4-p-cresox ybut-2-ynyloxy)[1]benzopyran-2-one (3b) give products 5 and 6 respecti vely both containing exocyclic double bond inaddition to normal produc ts, 4-aryloxymethylpyrano[3, 2-c][1]benzopyran-5(2H)-ones (4a and 4b). Other 4-(4-alkyl substituted aryloxybut-2-ynyloxy)[1]benzopyran-2-one (3c-f) furnish exclusively the aryloxymethylpyrano[3,2-c][1]benzopyra n-5(2H)-ones (4c-f).
