During the bromination of various substituted synthetic phenyl pyrrole
s with a chloroperoxidase from Streptomyces aureofaciens Tu 24, mixtur
es of bromopyrroles are obtained which are not easily accessible by ch
emical methods. According to the structure of the pyrroles and the kin
etics of their transformation, the reaction centre of the enzyme is si
tuated in a slitlike cavity of about 4 X 7 X 8 angstrom.
