Abstract
Upon-irradiation of PMCMA, PDCMA and PTCMA at ambient temperature with light of lambda = 253.7 nm, PMCMA and PDCMA undergo main-chain scissi on predominantly whereas PTCMA is intermolecularly crosslinked. A new absorption band with a maximum around 280 nm is formed in all cases. T his band is attributed to aldehyde groups generated in pendant groups. Under the influence of UV light the thermal degradation, overwhelming ly by depolymerization, commences at lower temperatures (at about 350 K) than in the dark (at about 440 K).
