H. Vogg et J. Vehlow, LOW POLLUTANT WASTE INCINERATION - A SYSTEMS-APPROACH TO EMISSIONS AND RESIDUES, ISR, Interdisciplinary science reviews, 18(3), 1993, pp. 199-206
Passionate public discussions of the environmental acceptability of wa
ste incineration reflect not only the growing awareness of ecological
problems but also a certain opposition to large scale technical proces
ses. This paper attempts to define requirements for low pollutant wast
e incineration and to draft technical measures suitable to meet those
high standards. Low pollutant waste incineration can only be achieved
if the applied technologies are aimed at both the reduction of stack e
missions and the quality of the combustion and gas cleaning residues.
Appropriate technical processes have been developed. Their assembly in
to a state of the art system demands great care in evaluating and bala
ncing such different aspects as technical performance, ecological acce
ptability and expense.
