A ditopic ligand bpy-cyclam (1) and its heterometallo-binuclear comple
x Ru (bpy)(2)(bpy-cyclam-Ni)(4+) (3) as well as the related intermedia
te complex Ru(bpy)(2)(bpy-cyclam-2H)(4+) (2) have been synthesized and
characterized. Their spectroscopic and redox properties have been stu
died. An efficient intramolecular fluorescence quenching phenomenon wa
s observed for complex 3, which was composed of an Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) core
and an Ni(cyclam)(2+) subunit, and is shown to be an interesting hybr
id molecule with novel functions.
