The effect of thermal annealing on the magnetic permeability and Mossb
auer spectra of the metallic glass Fe78Si9B13 have been studied. Mossb
auer spectroscopy provides information about the atomic level changes
associated with structural relaxation. It is found that the topologica
l rearrangements start taking place at a temperature lower than that n
eeded for relaxation of internal stresses. The magnetic permeability i
s affected by both topological rearrangements as well as internal stre
sses in the specimen. However, internal stresses have a stronger influ
ence on the magnetic permeability.
