T. Gejo et al., PHOTODISSOCIATION DYNAMICS OF ACETALDEHYDE - VIBRATIONAL-ENERGY DISTRIBUTION IN THE PHOTOFRAGMENT HCO, Chemical physics letters, 218(4), 1994, pp. 343-348
Vibrationally excited HCO radicals have been observed in the photodiss
ociation of acetaldehyde in a supersonic jet with the pump-probe techn
ique. The threshold wavelength for the bending and CO-stretching excit
ations was 308.7 and 302.6 nm, respectively. The nascent vibrational d
istribution relative to the ground state has been determined as a func
tion of the excitation wavelength for the 280-300 nm region. The obser
ved vibrational distribution of HCO was found to be consistent with th
e model in which the excess energy above the reaction barrier is stati
stically distributed among the fragments' degrees of freedom.
