Abstract
The problem of mechanical equilibrium of a layer on a crystalline subs trate under the action of tensile force is considered. A model Hamilto nian is proposed and equations of motion and equilibrium are derived. Solutions of these equations are obtained, corresponding to Frenkel-Ko ntorova dislocation and crack. It is shown that crack length is propor tional to inverse tensile force: l proportional to P-1.
