Abstract
The complete nucleotide sequence of the putative early transcriptional region 3 (E3), plus the hexon-associated polypeptide VIII (pVIII) gen e, and the N-terminus of the fiber protein gene of a porcine adenoviru s isolate, NADC-1, was determined. The E3 region of NADC-1 was found t o be 1879 bp and located between 80 and 85.8 map units. Eight open rea ding frames (ORFs) and three polyadenylation signals were identified i n the r strand. The amino acid sequences predicted to be encoded by OR Fs 1 and 8 were compared to the amino acid sequences of human adenovir us type 2 (Ad2) pVIII and fiber protein and found to be 60% and 55% si milar, respectively. The amino acid sequence predicted to be encoded b y ORF 4 was compared to the human Ad5 14.7 kDa protein and the C-termi nus of the amino acid sequence predicted to be encoded by ORF 11 of th e bovine Ad3 E3 region and found to be 36% and 41% similar, respective ly. A potential signal sequence was identified in ORF 5.
