C. Raschka et al., CORRELATIONS BETWEEN NUTRITIONAL INTAKE AND SOMATOTYPE (BODY BUILD), BY WAY OF THE EXAMPLE OF LONG-DISTANCE RUNNERS, Homo, 44(3), 1994, pp. 278-283
In a collective of 42 sportsmen and 13 sportswomen, who crossed German
y from north to south in 20 days in a 1000 km-race as ultra long dista
nce runners, daily running 50 km, very significant to highly significa
nt negative statistical relationships between the individual cumulativ
e and average daily intake of calories, fat and carbohydrates, which w
ere registered by means of a special nutritional computer program, bas
ed on the exact daily registration of the individual food intake, on o
ne side and the parallel body-constitution components endomorphy (acco
rding to HEATH/CARTER and PARNELL) and fat gain percentage (according
to DRINKWATER/ROSS and SLOAN et al. and PARIZKOVA/BUZKOVA) on the othe
r side Were discovered. Together with the findings of STORY et al., PA
RGMAN and JOHNSEN et al., who found the same amazingly negative correl
ations between endomorphy or pyknomorphism according to CONRAD on one
side and caloric food intake on the other side, our results support th
e existence of a real constitutional (genetic) disposition towards pyk
nomorphism or adiposity and may also support the theory of the so-call
ed ''inefficient food utiliser''. The positive correlations between th
e intake of calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat and water on one sid
e and of the constitutional component makrosomia according to KNUSSMAN
N On the other side underline the expected considerably larger food in
take of larger athletes in comparison to smaller ones.
