The purpose of this study is to explore the relative importance of thr
ee explanations for gender stratification by modeling their separate a
nd cumulative effects upon the increase in status, responsibility, and
salary achieved as a result of administrative promotion. Findings ind
icate that gender has a substantial negative impact on the attainment
of women-an impact that increases over time.
