Abstract
Non-limiting nutritional conditions revealed a growth-associated eryth
romycin production with ammonium sulfate while the relation was growth
-dissociated for ammonium nitrate. Feeding experiments suggested that
the residual nitrate level might be the key regulatory element. A nitr
ate-induced glutamine synthetase pathway was postulated according to t
he nature and initial concentration of the ammonium salt.
