A treatment manual for supportive-expressive psychoanalytic psychother
apy was written in order to train therapists in this form of treatment
. Based on psychotherapy research over the last fifteen years, as well
as extensive experience in training therapists with the manual, sever
al recommendations are presented. These recommendations propose what i
ssues should be emphasized in training, as well as proposed teaching m
ethods which have proven effective. Typical resistances by trainees to
teaching efforts are also discussed.
