Ns. Tietze et al., TOLERANCE OF SEWAGE-TREATMENT PLANT MICROORGANISMS TO MOSQUITOCIDES, Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association, 9(4), 1993, pp. 477-479
Beneficial protozoa and rotifers collected from a wastewater treatment
plant in Panama City, FL, were tested for tolerance to 11 commonly us
ed mosquito larvicides and adulticides in the laboratory. The acute ef
fects were assessed using selected concentrations of the adulticides f
enthion, malathion, naled, permethrin, and resmethrin; and the larvici
des Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, Bacillus sphaericus, diflubenz
uron, larviciding oil, methoprene, and temephos for the following micr
oorganism taxa: ameoboids, flagellates, free-swimming ciliates, stalke
d ciliates, and rotifers.
