Tj. Hursti et al., FACTORS MODIFYING THE RISK OF ACUTE AND CONDITIONED NAUSEA AND VOMITING IN OVARIAN-CANCER PATIENTS, International journal of oncology, 4(3), 1994, pp. 695-701
We prospectively studied, how certain patient characteristics modify t
he risk of chemotherapy induced and conditioned nausea and vomiting. Y
oung age and previous history of nausea and vomiting were factors asso
ciated with both chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting as well as c
onditioned nausea. Conditioned nausea was significantly associated wit
h having received two-day compared to one-day mode of chemotherapy, pr
evious distress during blood samples and odor memory. Tentative associ
ations were also found between a history of flushing and chemotherapy
induced nausea and vomiting as well as between autonomic perception, o
dor associations and conditioned nausea. The investigated variables ex
plained a larger part of the variance in conditioned compared acute na
usea and vomiting.
