Energy levels resulting from the splitting of the (5)E ground term of
the Fe++ ion in ZnSe were studied by Raman scattering. Data were taken
at T=2 K and in magnetic fields B less than or equal to 10T oriented
along the [100], [111] and [110] crystal axes. The observed anisotropy
of the energy-level diagram in a magnetic field is reasonably well de
scribed by a simple crystal field model.
