Rs. Allen, CURRENT-AWARENESS SERVICE FOR SPECIAL-LIBRARIES USING MICROCOMPUTER-BASED CURRENT-CONTENTS ON DISKETTE, Special libraries, 85(1), 1994, pp. 35-43
The intent of this paper is to demonstrate a method for developing and
implementing a current awareness service to researchers using the Cur
rent Contents on Diskette software and data. Methods to plan, develop,
test, and finally offer this service are given. Data collection and a
nalysis are employed in the planning process. The benefits gained by i
ntegrating this service with complimentary services offered by librari
es, especially document delivery, are examined. Substantial benefits t
o researchers, organizational administrators and the library are possi
ble as a result of this service. A successful working model of this se
rvice currently in use at the Purdue University Physics Library and Ea
rth & Atmospheric Sciences Library is discussed.
