Abstract
After many years of preparation and political deliberation, the offici al starting signal was given on March I, 1993, for the construction of the new A22 trunk road in The Netherlands, between Alkamaar and Amste rdam/Schiphol Airport to the east of the Velsen Tunnel. This section o f road is about 11 Km long, and runs from Uitgeest to the intersection with the A9 in the direction of Amsterdam and Schiphol. The most expe nsive part of the project is the construction of the Wijker Tunnel, wh ich will run tinder the North Sea Canal.
