1-Thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspiro[4.4]nonan-3-one (1a), 1-thia-4-benzyl-4-aza
spiro[4.4]nonan-3-one (1b), 1-thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspiro[4.5]decan-3-one
(2a) and 1-thia-4-benzyl-4-azaspiro[4.5]decan-3-one (2b) react with i
satine (3) to afford lidene)-1-thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspiro[4.4]nonan-3-on
e (4a), lidene)-1-thia-4-benzyl-4-azaspiro[4.4]nonan-3-one (4b), lylid
ene)-1-thia-4-phenyl-azaspiro[4.5]decan-3-one (5a) and lidene)-1-thia-
4-benzyl-4-azaspiro[4.5]decan-3-one (5b), respectively. Condensation o
f 4a,b and 5a,b with urea, methylurea, thiourea and phenylthiourea yie
lds the corresponding spiropyrimidinones (6a-h) and spirothiopyrimidin
ones (7a-h) together with 3'-substituted spiro[cycloalkane-1, 2'(3'H)-
indolo[2, 3-d]thia-zolo[5, 4-f] [1, 3]diazepin]-5'(7'H) ones/thiones 8
a-d and 9a-d, respectively. The products have been characterized by el
emental analyses, IR and PMR spectra.
