SYNTHESIS AND ANTIINFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF SOME 3-HETEROCYCLYL-1,2-BENZISOTHIAZOLES

3-Heteroaryl-1, 2-benzisothiazoles, namely 5-(5-alkyl/aryl-1, 3, 4-oxa diazol-2-yl)- (1), 3-(5-alkyl/aryl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-(2), 3-(5- substituted amino-1, 3, 4-o-xadiazol-2-yl)- (3), 3-(5-substituted amin o-l, 3, 4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-(4), and 3-(3-mercapto-4-alkyl/aryl-4H-1, 2 , 4-triazol-5-yl)-1, 2-benzisothiazoles (5) have been synthesized as p otential non-acidic non-steroidal antiinflammatory agents. All the twe nty five target compounds and six selected intermediates have been ass ayed for their antiinflammatory activity in carrageenan induced edema model in rats. Some of the compounds show significant activity compara ble to that of the reference compound ibuprofen.
