The specific beat (C-p) of PtGa2 was measured as a function of tempera
ture (T) from 0.46 to 4.21 K. It undergoes a superconducting transitio
n with a critical temperature (T-c) at zero magnetic field of 2 K. The
low temperature C-p data above T-c yielded a much smaller value of th
e density of states (DOS) at the Fermi energy (E(F)) than those values
obtained from previous band-structure calculation and magnetic suscep
tibility and thermoelectric power measurements. The Hall coefficient (
R(H)) of PtGa2 is positive, implying the electrical conduction is by h
oles.
