Abstract
R & D activity on high quantum efficiency alkali antimonide photocatho des is in progress at Milano, in the context of the ARES program. Insi de a preliminary preparation chamber, Cs3Sb layers with quantum effici ency up to 9% (at lambda = 543.5 nm) and a lifetime of several days ha ve recently been produced on copper, stainless steel and niobium, usin g a reproducible deposition procedure adapted to the different substra tum material. An advanced preparation chamber, with an improved vacuum system and the possibility to transfer cathodes to surface analysis e quipment, under UHV conditions, is also discussed.
