Abstract
Studies of the properties of the standard thermionic cathodes used as photoemitters began at LAL (Orsay) with B cathodes and are continued h ere with trioxide cathodes BaO, CaO and SrO. A picosecond YAG laser de livering 35 ps pulses is used at the fundamental frequency and with ha rmonics up to the 4th, and a dc electric field is applied between the anode and the cathode. For homega3BAR = 3.51 eV and homega4BAR = 4.68 eV the quantum yield is eta greater-than-or-equal-to 1 X 10(-3). With these two wavelengths, particular phenomena, depending on the BaO prop erties, can increase the temporal width of the emitted current up to n anoseconds.
