Blends of poly(phenylene sulphide) (PPS) and a liquid crystalline poly
mer (LCP) have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry
(DSC). DSC results for these blends showed that the components were pa
rtially miscible. In the injection moulded samples, the DSC thermogram
s reveal a single melting peak whilst double melting peaks were observ
ed in the pellets. Thermal properties such as T(m), T(sc), DELTAC(p) a
nd DELTAH of the blends were determined. The thermal properties confir
med that partial miscibility occurred for the blends. Bending properti
es of the blends were also checked. Bending modulus was found to incre
ase with increasing LCP content whilst the bending strength and elonga
tion were found to reduce. These results are attributed to the stiffne
ss of pure LCP.
