Abstract
We present the results of a linear analysis of stationary generation s tability for short external cavity laser diodes in a wide range of cou pling coefficients with the effect of external cavity mode beating bei ng taken into account. Besides coherence-collapse transition, the high -frequency instability due to mode interaction is revealed and investi gated. The results of linear theory are proved by computer simulations . They may be considered as guidelines for the design of high-speed la ser diodes with integrated passive cavities.
